Joe holds a PhD in Economics, focusing on human capital, and an MS in Computer Science, both from Washington State University. He is currently a Principal Data Scientist in the people analytics organization at Toyota North America. His expertise encompasses causal inference, machine learning, and storytelling with data. In his people analytics work at Capital One and Toyota, Joe has combined methods from economics, IO psychology, statistics, and machine learning to create novel solutions to previously unsolved problems. At MIT's FutureTech Lab, he will lead research quantifying the improvements in efficiency and performance of the most important algorithms in society, as well as their impact.
