Martin Fleming is a Research Scientist at MIT Sloan and engaged in MIT’s Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) FutureTech Project at the intersection of economics and computer science.

Martin is the former IBM Chief Economist and Chief Analytics Officer and former Chief Revenue Scientist, Varicent, the Toronto-based sales-performance management software provider. 

Martin is the author of Breakthrough: A Growth Revolution. He regularly speaks to topics such as: Will Generative AI Drive Growth and Save the Global Economy? How will Artificial Intelligence Impact Monetary Policy? Will Secular Stagnation Continue in the Period Ahead?

He is a Fellow of The Productivity Institute, the UK research organization exploring what productivity means for business, workers, and communities and a Fellow of the National Association for Business Economics recognized for outstanding performance as a business economist, contribution to the field of business economics, and service to NABE. Martin is also a consultant to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

Martin is a member and former chair of the Conference of Business Economists. Martin is a participant in the Brookings Productivity Measurement Initiative, organized by David Wessel and chaired by Janet Yellen. He is also a member of the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago Economists Roundtable. Martin was a former member of the Federal Economic Statistics Advisory Committee and of the Federal Reserve Bank of New York’s Fintech Advisory Committee.

Martin holds a B.S. in mathematics from the University of Massachusetts, Lowell and an M.A. and Ph.D. in economics from Tufts University.
